First steps

First steps

Here you will find information for your first steps in classix applications.

Find out what to observe when starting the software and get an informative overview of the basic configuration of the machine.

Calling up the software

After calling up the programme, the splash screen appears for a short time with information on licensing and the programme version used. Then the main window with the login mask opens. Here you enter your user name and your password, possibly you can also select different clients. (Your access data should have been given to you by a superior employee).

Main En

Afterwards you have access to the main window. The window title at the top shows the client selected during login. Below that is the menu bar. Behind the categories displayed there are sensibly arranged sub-menus that open up when you click on the terms: these may in turn contain branches. In this way, all functions of the classix applications can be easily accessed via the menu bar.

The toolbar is located under the menu to call up the most common functions directly. All functions can of course only be used subject to the access rights set up for the respective user.

Adjusting the client

Under the menu item "System - Clients" you can enter the name and address of your company. This information is used, for example, for printouts.

(See also the user documentation for the " Client" module, which is accessible via F1 help after calling the module).

Creating financial periods

When the system is delivered, some fiscal years and their periods are already created. By default, the fiscal years are defined according to calendar years.

Each time the programme is started, the system searches for and allocates the corresponding period in the system according to the date.

You can maintain the required fiscal period under the menu item "System - Calendar -> Fiscal years" or "Basic data - Fiscal years".

(See also the user documentation for the " Fiscal Year" module, which is accessible via F1 help after calling up the module).

Setting up user accounts

As long as no users are defined in this machine, no user login screen opens after the program is started. Only when the first user is created in the system, you must always log in to the system with a user code.

You can create users under the menu item "System - User". In the simplest case, users can only be created with an abbreviation and a password. If you want to create further personal data, you can assign the user to an employee of the company (button "Person").

(See also the user documentation for the " User" module, which is accessible via F1 help after calling up the module).

Rights management

Some access rights are defined when the machine is delivered. When users are created and assigned access privileges, these users can perform only what they are authorized to perform on this machine.

It should be noted that - if an access right has been assigned to a user - a user may only do what has been assigned to him in his access rights. This applies in particular to access to data (classes Security), which is completely blocked by assigning even one access right. Therefore, there must always be a release for reading and/or writing data in the assigned access rights (see the access right "Release of all classes" in the database).

Access rights are created under the menu item "System - Rights management", assignment to users is done in the user administration module (see above).

(See also the user documentation for the modules " message access", "class access" and "object access", which is accessible via F1 help after calling up the module).

Definition of units

Standard units such as "m" for meter or "€" are predefined in the system. Possibly missing units can be maintained under the menu item "System - Units" or in the object inspector via system data.

(See also the user documentation for the " Units" module, which is accessible via F1 help after calling up the module).

Basics and tips for navigating the system

All classix applications can be operated intuitively and effortlessly. Due to the object-oriented structure of the database, through programming up to the user interface, the data are represented in the system as they are connected with each other in real business life.

This allows you to navigate in your data in the same way as your business processes logically require. The menus are designed accordingly process-oriented. There are symbols or buttons (buttons) for quick access where required. Of course all the handy 'shortcuts' known from Windows applications also work. With the 'Alt' (key) letter you can quickly reach the corresponding menu item directly via the keyboard (e.g. 'Alt'-'S' leads you directly to 'System', 'Tab' key moves you forward between the input fields of a window and 'Shift' and 'Tab' keys move you backward, and so on. Therefore, within a text box you must press 'Ctrl' and 'Tab' to insert a tab jump of the text.

If things don't happen as quickly as you are used to with classix, there can be four reasons for this:

  1. You have started a somewhat more extensive transaction, such as generating a longer list. Then you see at the cursor that your computer is still working on it.
cursordsp.gif Open transaction without database access
cursorrdb.gif Read access to the database
cursorwdb.gif Write access to the database

  2. The network connection is temporarily heavily loaded by other processes running on the server.
  3. You have inadvertently not confirmed with 'OK' an information or error message that occurs, for example, after an incorrect entry. This will block the machine until it is confirmed. You can find it on the start bar of your Windows environment.

    Error En

  4. The application really does not react any more and must be terminated manually via the task manager.

Double-click on list entries and you will see that you can go directly to the business process behind this data and can also branch from there as required. In this way you can quickly and easily get to the bottom of all queries.

You can move, enlarge or reduce the windows as you wish or keep them ready for later reference as an icon bar at the bottom.
This list could go on and you will also find things yourself that can be added here. Feel free to play with the system, you won't break anything! Detailed instructions for window navigation can be found below.

One more thing: If you enter data, it is better to press the 'Save' button once more than not enough. If you close a window without having used it, you risk losing the data you just entered.

Of course, as in other programs, you can also use the 'F1' key to get extensive help. However, if you have any further questions or if you are at a loss for further information, please press 'Alt (+ Shift)'-'S' and 'v' in the main menu. This will take you to the classix version info and you will also find our telephone number. Here you will receive competent help and advice from our friendly staff.

You can close the classix windows by clicking the 'Back'-button, as well as by clicking the 'x' in the upper right corner of the window or simply with the key combination 'Alt'-'F4'. Sometimes these options are not all available together. The 'Exit'-button of the main menu closes the whole classix application.

Instructions for use - Working with windows

General

After calling up a menu item or selecting a symbol, a window appears in which you can edit your corresponding data.

Like the main window, each application window has a menu bar and toolbar.
You can have several windows open at the same time and position and size them as you wish on your screen.

Within the windows, you can also use the letter shortcut to call up any menu items or buttons. In text fields you make the necessary entries with the keyboard and in the selection fields you make your choice.

Selection field Function
Wincombo Extends the list of choices alt.gif arrow.gif
Winradiobtn False Winradiobtn True Fields marked with a dot are switched alternatively, i.e. you always select only one of the options offered. (radio button)
Wincheckbox False Wincheckbox True Rectangular fields, which are activated with a cross, usually offer several options for simultaneous use. (checkbox)

System Tray (information area)
When the application is started, an icon is placed in the Windows system tray.
This allows you to control the open windows and optionally supports Drag&Drop.
The corresponding menu with the application functions appears by clicking on the icon.

Moving a window

To move a window, position the mouse pointer on the title bar, hold down the left mouse button and move the window (mouse) - as soon as you release the left mouse button, the window remains at its current position.
Window Move En

Adjusting the window size

By changing the size or shape of a window, you can view several windows at once or specify how much of the contents of a window should be displayed.
To adjust the window size, position the mouse pointer on an edge or corner of the window - it will change its shape to a double arrow. Keep the left mouse button pressed and drag the frame in the desired direction.
Window Resize En

The buttons in the upper right corner of the window offer further possibilities:
Wincontrol00

Button Function
Wincontrol03 Reduces the window to a button at the top of the taskbar. When applied to the main window, it is placed on the taskbar. (minimize)
Wincontrol02a Enlarges the window to the entire desktop. (maximize)
Wincontrol02b Resets the window to its previous size. This button appears after you maximize or minimize the window.
Wincontrol01 The window is closed without saving any changes. If you want to save the changes, you must first press the Save button or the diskette symbol.
Tooltips

Tooltips appear when you place the mouse pointer over an element (button, input field, ...)
Tooltip En
They are used to provide you with extended information about the function and handling of the element.

drag and drop

Drag&Drop allows you to insert objects at a specific position by dragging them with the mouse.

Mouse cursor Designation Description
dragcanl.gif Cancel For logical reasons, it is not possible to place the object in the specified position.
dragmove.gif Move The object is moved.
dragcopy.gif Copy The object is copied.
dragmovs.gif Move+Sibling An object is moved and at the same time sorted into a specific position at the target.
dragcops.gif Copy+Sibling An object is copied and at the same time sorted to a specific location at the destination.
dragmovm.gif Multiple Move Several objects are moved.
dragcopm.gif multiple copy Multiple objects are copied.
Scroll bars

The scroll bars appear at the right and bottom of a window object as soon as its contents can no longer be fully displayed.

List Scrollbar De

The scroll bars are operated with the mouse. If you click on one of the arrows at the end of each scroll bar, the displayed content moves up or down or sideways by one line.

Their current position is determined by a rectangle, the size of which depends on the content displayed. If you drag this rectangle with the mouse to another position, the display of the document content changes accordingly. By clicking on the scroll bar above or below the position rectangle, the display will scroll up or down a complete window content.

Use the Pos1 or End key to go to the first or last entry. The Page up and Page down keys allow you to scroll through the entries.

Context menus

Context menus contain commands that can be applied to the current selection.
By right-clicking on a specific element you can call up an existing context menu.
Context En

Tree

The tree view allows a clear representation of hierarchical relationships between objects.

Key navigation:
You can easily navigate through the tree structure using the numeric keyboard.
+ Open the selected node
- Close the selected node
* Open the selected node and all subordinate nodes
/ Close the selected node and all subordinate nodes

Note: In order to keep the time needed to build the tree as short as possible, expansion signs ( tree_collapsed.png ) even if no subnodes exist - in this case the expansion sign would simply disappear when clicked without adding subnodes.

List window

The core area of a list window is the "table" in which the corresponding data is listed.

Double-click on list entries and you will see that you can go directly to the business processes behind this data and can also branch out there as required. In this way you can quickly and easily get to the bottom of all queries.

Search/Filter

In order to avoid unnecessary load on your computer, tables with a lot of data are still empty after calling up the window. To display the data, you must enter a specific search term or number (article/order number) in the corresponding input field above the table. You can also simply press the enter key to display the data unfiltered.

Multiple search:
Many list windows allow multiple searches, recognisable by the symbol CX_AMOUNT_calculation.png in the toolbar.

Msearch En

Blue text Search fields for single and combined search
Black text Search fields single search
Start search: Enter (starts a single search for data in the field)
Start search with CX_AMOUNT_calculation.png Start search for all combination fields (trigger multiple search)

Sorting

By clicking on one of the column headings you can choose between an ascending or descending sorting of the column contents. This is illustrated by the arrow appearing next to the column heading:
Sorting over several columns is possible by clicking on the column headings in combination with the Ctrl key.
List Sort En

Adjust column width

If the mouse pointer reaches the area between two column headings, it changes into a vertical line with two horizontal arrows. When this happens you can change the width of the column to the left of the pointer by moving the pointer to the left or right while holding down the left mouse button.
List Size En
If, on the other hand, you double-click in this position, the left column is made just wide enough to fit all column elements exactly into it, i.e. as wide as the widest column element.

Column order

You can adjust the column order by dragging and dropping the column headers.

Selection/Select

With the shift or Ctrl key and the left mouse button you can select contiguous or isolated areas.
Without a key combination, clicking on an element will always first cancel all existing selections and then select the element under the mouse pointer.
List Select En
You can also navigate within the list using the arrow keys, where the space bar allows you to (de)select the current list entry.

Interaction

Double-click on list entries and you will see that you can go directly to the business processes behind this data and can also branch out there as required. In this way you can quickly and easily get to the bottom of all queries.

Input window (editing window)

New data can be created or existing data edited via the input window.

Input and text fields

If the mouse pointer is over a text or input field, it has the form of a vertical line with two horizontal boundary lines. A flashing vertical line within the field indicates that the text is ready for input and also indicates the current position.
If there is no vertical line in the field to be edited, you must activate the field by simply clicking on it.

Multilingualism:

Our applications offer the possibility to choose between different languages during runtime. The language can be changed using the buttons with the country flags. All language-dependent elements (menu labelling, buttons etc.) are directly adapted to the selected language.
Winml En

Winml De
You can switch between the different languages using the PageUp (up), PageDown (down) keys on the keyboard. If the language was changed via the keyboard, the input field allows the alternative text to be entered directly in the corresponding language.

Register

Tabs simplify the presentation of complex contents of subject areas.
By clicking on the corresponding tab, you can elegantly navigate between the individual data areas.

The options window provides access to the most important settings that control the behaviour of the respective list or input window. These changed settings can be temporarily valid for the current program session but can also be saved as the default setting of the logged in user.
Options En

Dialogue window

While you are working with the application, a dialog box may appear.
Dialog En
The system displays dialog boxes to provide you with information, such as notifications or specific notes on your current actions.
In order to continue working you must end the dialogue by selecting or (if available).

Error messages

If an error message appears repeatedly while working, please contact your KeyUser or directly the classix support.

For better reproducibility you should describe the individual steps up to the error message and send a screenshot of the error message.
Before you take the screenshot, please press "Yes" so that a detailed display appears, which makes it easier to find the error.

A screenshot can be copied to the clipboard by pressing the Print key (= full screen) or Alt Gr + Print key (= current window) and inserted into the email or Word document by pressing Ctrl+V.
